This Sunday, September 7, faith leaders across the United States will come together in an unprecedented show of unity for Stand Up Sunday—a nationwide interfaith call to end antisemitism and all forms of religious hate.
The initiative, led by the Appeal of Conscience Foundation and the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, comes at a moment of deep pain and urgency. Just weeks ago, the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in South Minneapolis claimed the lives of children, reminding us of the devastating impact of violence in sacred spaces.
Stand Up Sunday will unite more than 1.5 million people of faith nationwide, representing Christian, Jewish, Hindu, and other traditions. From New York to San Francisco, congregations will raise one collective voice against hate.
Participating communities include:
Churches of the Catholic Archdiocese of New York and Diocese of Brooklyn
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and Armenian & Serbian Orthodox Dioceses
The National Council of Churches of Christ and numerous Protestant denominations
The Akshardham BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Temple USA
And many others across the country
This initiative builds on the Appeal of Conscience Foundation’s long-standing mission to “Respect the Other” — a call to mutual respect, religious freedom, and peaceful coexistence.
Religious-based hate crimes have more than doubled in the U.S. since 2021. According to the FBI, while Jewish Americans make up just 2.4% of the population, they account for 69% of all faith-based hate crimes. Meanwhile, churches, temples, synagogues, and mosques are being forced to spend more on security than ministry — a troubling reflection of today’s climate.
“Attacking a house of worship hits the jugular vein of every faith community.” — Rabbi Arthur Schneier, Founder, Appeal of Conscience Foundation
“Stand Up Sunday will be a powerful symbol of unity and a clear message that antisemitism and hate of any kind have no place in our communities.” — Robert Kraft, Founder, Foundation to Combat Antisemitism
“No desecration of holy sites, no antisemitism, no hate. We support this effort wholeheartedly and call upon everyone to Stand Up Sunday.” — Bawa Jain, Founding Secretary-General, World Council of Religions
CRL is proud to support this historic day of unity. As Bawa Jain participates in interfaith services this weekend—at the Hindu Temple and at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York—we invite you to join us in amplifying the message of Stand Up Sunday.
Together, we can send a resounding message: An attack on one house of worship is an attack on us all.
